The Blockhouse
Muskegon State Park, North Muskegon. A replica of a historic fort overlooking Lake Michigan with many surrounding hiking trails, and dunes.

Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center – P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, Norton Shores. The Gillette Visitor Center offer events for every season from Frog Days to Autumn Dune Walks to Moonlight Snowshoe Tours. Exhibits include interpretations of the state’s duneland ecosystem. The park features spectacular dunes and 2.5 miles of Lake Michigan beach. 231-798-3573

Hackley & Hume Historic Site – Downtown Muskegon. The restored homes of Muskegon’s most famous lumbar barons, Charles H. Hackley and Thomas Hume, are the two of the finest examples of Queen Anne Style Victorian homes in the country. Fire Barn Museum – Downtown Muskegon. The museum is a replica of the Hackley House Hose Company No. 2, which was formed in 1875 after the city experienced several devastating fires. The heroic tradition of fire-fighting is explored with exhibits and photographs of local fires.

Muskegon County Museum – Downtown Muskegon. Learn about the history of Muskegon County in the Coming to the Lakes Exhibit that takes visitors on a 10,000-year journey. A life-sized mastodon, sawmill, Great Lakes Schooner and much more featured. www.muskegonmuseum.org

Grave site of Capt. Jonathan Walker – Evergreen Cemetery, Muskegon. Just beyond the entrance, a pair of monuments mark the grave of Capt. Jonathan Walker, a Massachusetts-born sea captain and abolitionist, who was arrested off the coast of Florida in 1844 while trying to deliver seven escaped slaves to freedom. After his conviction in a federal court, Walker had the letters “SS” for slave stealer, branded on his right hand. He is the only man in U.S. history to have been branded by the order of a federal court. Walker spent his last years of his life in the Muskegon area.

Muskegon Museum of Art – Downtown Muskegon.  One of the most highly respected art museums in the Midwest offers a full of schedule of permanent collection displays, traveling exhibits and gift shop. www.muskegonartmuseum.org

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp – Twin Lake. The nationally renown fine arts camp offers summer full of outdoor evening performances on the shores of Little Blue Lake. Featured is a variety of symphonies, bands, jazz and vocal groups plus drama and dance by professionals and students. http://www.bluelake.org

Great Lakes Naval Memorial & Museum – Pere Marquette Park, Muskegon. The World War II submarine, USS Silversides, is open for tours and offers an maritime museum and interpretive center. Other vessels include the Coast Guard Cutter McLane. Scouting and Youth groups can reserve overnight stays on the sub. 231-755-1230

L.C Walker Arena – Downtown Muskegon. The home of the United Hockey League’s 2005 Colonial Cup winners, the Fury, and the Continental Basketball Association’s Michigan Mayhem, the arena also hosts concers, and exhibits. 231-726-2400

White River Light Station Museum
– Whitehall. This stately old building, made of Michigan limestone and brick, features photographs, paintings, artifacts and stories that will provide a sense of Muskegon’s maritime heritage 231-894-8265

World’s Largest Weathervane
– Montague. The weather vane is closely associated with a cherished bit of White Lake legend. It stands 48 feet high, is 14 feet long and weighs over 4,300 pounds and features a replica of the lumber ship Ella Ellenwood, which was homeported on White Lake. Cedar Point’s Michigan Adventure Water & Amusement Park

– You can find beach volleyball, sugar sand beach, play ground, the Muskegon Channel and a lighthouse at Pere Marquette Park.  Duck Lake has a shallow stream that leads to Lake Michigan, great spot with families with small children. Silver Lake Sand Dunes – Mears
. This is something you have to do! Take a dune tour or rent a jeep and explore on your own. Bordering Lake Michigan and Silver Lake, Silver Lake Sand Dune Access area consists of nearly 2,000 acres of rolling sand hills 1.5 miles wide and 3 miles long. (800) 870-9786

Hart – Montaque Trail State Park – Montaque. A 25 mile paved trail passing through rural and forested lands. Scenic overlooks and picnic areas are located on the route.  Hiking, bicycling, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. So bring your bikes! 231-893-4585
